Independent Living Assistance with LivHOME Care Monitor

August 16, 2013 by Sinclair Prosser Gasior

In our estate planning and elder law practice, I often meet exceptional individuals whose sole motivation is to help senior citizens and individuals with disabilities continue to receive the highest quality of life possible given their limitations.  And when I meet them, I am willing to pass that information on to others.  One such organization is LivHOME.  What makes them stand apart is their innovative product called the LivHOME CareMonitor®.

I am always encouraged when advances in technology find ways to help those in need continue to remain in their home or independent living unit longer, rather than require a transfer to an Assisted Living Facility.  A person’s level of care is so varied that oftentimes the family does not know where to turn.  Mom may be forgetting to take her medication or skipping important appointments.  Dad maybe is losing weight at a rapid pace and you’re not sure why.  The LivHOME CareMonitor® is a cost-effective solution to this dilemma.

LivHOME CareMonitor® can be programmed to alert the client that its time to take his medication or remind him of a doctor’s appointment.  Also, the family will be able to find out if the client has been taking the medication as well, by how the person responds to the alerts.  If there is a real concern that the individual is saying she is taking her meds, but she is not, then sensors can be placed on the drawer or door to the cabinet where the medication is located to verify whether she is actually accessing her medication.  For Dad who is losing weight, but says he is eating; what if there could be a sensor installed on the refrigerator door to determine how often he is opening the refrigerator door or pantry.

The LivHOME CareMonitor® can also be hooked up to biometric devices to help manage chronic illnesses, such as with a blood pressure monitor, glucometer, scale and pulse oximeter.  The data compiled can then be provided to the treating physician.  There is also 24/7 alert monitoring to respond in an emergency.  Most plans come with a Care Manager that will be available to the client and the family to oversee care.

For the more savvy clients, the LivHOME CareMonitor® can access the internet to check e-mail and social media accounts.  Families can share photographs on the device or even Skype, which helps the senior feel engaged and in touch with the current events.  The client’s calendar can be uploaded and reminders will alert them of those appointments and special engagements.  There are also games that the senior can play that provide hours of fun and enjoyment, as well as access to music.

The LivHOME CareMonitor® is cost-effective and a plan can be tailored to your needs.  This device can mean the difference between bringing in a caregiver to oversee your mother’s medication and meals; and keeping Mom at home with a monitor that will make her feel she is still independent, while the family has peace of mind.

Testimonials

5 Stars

We initiated estate planning following a presentation by Sinclair Prosser Attorney Jon Gasior. We were so impressed, we contracted with them to complete our estate planning. Subsequently, we assembled information on our assets and Sinclair Prosser Gasior did the rest. Correspondence was communicated to our financial institutions and the estate was established. We were very pleased with the courteous manner of the Sinclair Prosser Gasior staff. However, it was their professionalism that made us satisfied we chose this firm to handle our estate. We have nothing but praise for Sinclair Prosser Gasior .
