Life in Fort Washington, MD

Fort Washington is a part of Prince George County in Maryland. It is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area. The community is to the west of Maryland Route 210 and provides an easy commute to downtown D.C. The census designated place (CDP) spans 16.57 square miles, including 2.78 square miles (or 16.8 percent) of water.

Fort Washington has a long and storied history. The community gets its name from a fort completed in 1809 which served as the only defensive fort that protected the D.C. area. The Fort today is part of a large park that has many hiking paths and that provides beautiful views of the Potomac River. Fort Washington also played a role in the War of 1812 when it was captured by the British around the time that the capital was built.

Today, the Fort is located near many riverfront homes which have been built in this affluent area. National Golf Club is located in Fort Washington, as are community swimming pools and two marinas. Large single family homes began growing up in Fort Washington in 1960 when the area was rural, and have continued to be built. Fort Washington is an attractive place for families to live, which is why so many people who work in Washington D.C. have homes in the Fort Washington area.

Seniors in Fort Washington, MD

Many of the people living locally are older residents. In Fort Washington, 16.1 percent of the population is 65 years or older. In addition, seniors 65 and up who live alone account for 7.1 percent of households within Fort Washington. As seniors get older, it may become important to obtain either home healthcare or healthcare in a residential nursing center or assisted living facility.

A Place for Mom reports there are more than 50 different nursing home communities in and around Fort Washington, with an average rating for these different nursing facilities set at four stars out of five. It is important to carefully research nursing homes in order to make certain a facility that is chosen for you or a loved one to live in is safe. Sinclair Prosser Gasior can provide assistance with using various research tools available to you to determine the reputation of nursing home facilities within Fort Washington.

Nursing homes are costly, with a Place for Mom estimating average monthly costs between $1850 and $7929.00. A Fort Washington elder law attorney offers assistance in protection of assets for those concerned about how nursing home care will be paid for. It may be possible to structure the ownership of your assets such that you can qualify for means-tested Medicaid and get Medicaid to pay for nursing home care. Understanding the Medicaid planning process is a key part of what elder law attorneys assist clients in doing to protect their wealth and their legacy.

Subsequently, we assembled information on our assets and Sinclair Prosser Gasior did the rest. Correspondence was communicated to our financial institutions and the estate was established.
