Passing the Torch

November 14, 2019 by Colleen Sinclair Prosser, Estate Planning Attorney

It has been eleven months since I stepped aside as the owner of Sinclair Prosser Gasior and I continue to work at the law firm with Attorney Jon Gasior as the principal.  I have been an attorney for 29 years, recently celebrated 23 years at the firm, and owned and operated Sinclair Prosser Gasior for 15 years.  Going from being the owner of the law firm to an employee has been a big transition for me, but one I am glad I made.

Jon came to the law firm in December of 2013, and working with him these past six years has been a pleasure.  A couple of years ago, in his annual employee review, Jon mentioned that he would like to run the law firm one day.  We discussed some things he needed to focus on in order to take over, and within the next year he met those goals. I could see he was serious about his future with Sinclair Prosser Gasior.

In order to make the change of ownership, Jon and I worked together for most of 2018, meeting weekly to discuss the transition. I am happy to say the transition went very smoothly.  Of course we could not anticipate every detail and a few surprises popped up, but we worked through them seamlessly.  Jon is energetic, ambitious, smart and kind, and I am very comfortable with his vision of the future for the law firm.

Although I never imagined the day would come that I would want to turn the law firm over to someone else, there are many reasons that I made the decision to do so.  The first reason is, “when opportunity knocks, answer the door.”  Jon’s desire to one day become the principal of Sinclair Prosser Gasior set the wheels in motion for me to begin making the transition as well.  Secondly, my transition from owner to employee allows me more time to focus on the legal work I do for our clients alongside spending more time with my family and friends.  Working at Sinclair Prosser Gasior, with my dad, fellow attorneys and staff, clients, and in my community has been a pleasure and I would not have missed the opportunity for the world.

Testimonials

5 Stars

We initiated estate planning following a presentation by Sinclair Prosser Attorney Jon Gasior. We were so impressed, we contracted with them to complete our estate planning. Subsequently, we assembled information on our assets and Sinclair Prosser Gasior did the rest. Correspondence was communicated to our financial institutions and the estate was established. We were very pleased with the courteous manner of the Sinclair Prosser Gasior staff. However, it was their professionalism that made us satisfied we chose this firm to handle our estate. We have nothing but praise for Sinclair Prosser Gasior .
